Common Misconceptions about Flowers

Common Misconceptions about Flowers
One of my goals for this blog is to help educate my readers about flowers! One thing I really want to shed light on is all of the myths and misconceptions about flowers. With each customer that I sit down with, I hear all about the different myths that they have heard or begun to believe about flowers.

Let’s go through some of them!

Possibly the most COMMON myth is that flowers are too expensive for something that dies anyway. Call me biased, but I believe that flowers are in a way, priceless. Flowers don’t have to be expensive AT ALL. It all depends on what your personal budget, style, and needs are. Surprising a loved one with a $10 wrapped bouquet can be just as impactful as a $75 detailed arrangement. Yes, unfortunately, flowers do die, but they can be one of the most enjoyable things on Earth when they’re alive. Those flowers can leave memories and emotions long past their life.

Another myth I hear is, “I can get any flower, any time of the year.” Well, you can, but it might cost more if it’s not in season. I LOVE talking through flower substitutions and items that are in season if my customers really have their heart set on a certain style. I’m here to help you create something you really LOVE no matter what!

Here’s another HUGE myth that I hear all of the time: “Roses are a must when considering a romantic bouquet!” First of all, there are so many different types of flowers! If you don’t like roses, you should try ranunculus or dahlias instead! These choices are just as romantic and a little more unique and unexpected!

Unfortunately, some don’t think that sending flowers to someone is an important sign of affection. People who have that belief should try being a delivery driver for a day. The excitement on someone’s face when they receive a River Valley bouquet is absolutely priceless. I promise you, sending flowers to a loved one (no matter what they cost) has the biggest impact on their day. It’s truly beautiful.

Another common myth I hear is that flowers only last the day of the wedding. There are SO many things you can do to repurpose your flowers! You can take them to a nursing home to spread the beauty to more people. You can preserve them and put them in a shadow box. You can make potpourri with them. You can add them to candles! Just do a quick Google search for all of the creative ways to repurpose them!

As a florist, it makes me sad when people believe these myths because flowers are my passion and I see how much they impact people’s lives during the good times and the tough times.

I want more people to be knowledgeable about flowers and see the BEAUTY in them that I see every day. I hope that if you start understanding the value of flowers, you will use flowers as a vehicle to impact other people’s lives more often! They really are one of the greatest surprises in the world.

So… who are you going to send a little surprise to next??
