Hey, bride-to-be! Congratulations! If you're new here, we're all about helpful tips when it comes to planning your dream wedding. We love giving advice, interviewing other wedding professionals, and giving you wedding inspiration on our blog. Needless to say, we're happy you're here and we can't wait to help you plan your special day! Today's blog post is all about 10 simple tips to planning your dream wedding. Let's dive in!
Choose the date you want to get married! Sounds simple, but this should be something you give some intentional thought to. What time of year or what season do you want to get married in? And why is this important to you? Once you nail this down, you can start taking things one step at at time!
Book your venue and research the other vendors you want. Once you have selected your date, it’s time to secure your venue and start exploring the other vendors you will need to book. Do your research, ask for recommendations, and check out their social media to get an idea of the work they do!
Determine your vibe for the big day! Starting a Pinterest board or even looking through magazines to put together ideas of what you want your big day to look like will be helpful. A tip we LOVE is coming up with 5-10 words that describe how you want your wedding to feel. When you use those 5-10 words as a guide, it will help you so much when making all other decisions! Is your wedding going to be indoors or outdoors? Are you thinking Romantic? Traditional? Bohemian? Rustic? Or maybe a blend of a few different styles? This is where we can come in to help you totally nail the vibe of your wedding with gorgeous floral arrangements.
Choose the color palette. Once you have the vision and the color palette in mind, you can start planning the invitations, the decorations, and the bridesmaids dresses. Some great colors for upcoming spring weddings are pastels...think light blues, lavenders, neutral greens, and subtle pinks. Neutral is also a huge hit right now, and we're a big fan! This is a great opportunity to use those 5-10 words too... once you start thinking about colors, think about which ones best fit your original vibe!
Say yes to the dress! Time to start shopping for the perfect gown. This may take some time and you may want to visit a few different shops to really get a feel for what you like. Be open-minded when shopping, but also make sure you feel like a “bride” in your gown. It matters how YOU feel (not what anyone else thinks)!
Found the dress? Now it’s time to decide on the hair, makeup, and all things beauty! It’s so helpful to get recommendations from family or friends for your hair and makeup artists! Do you want your hair up or down? What’s the makeup look you are going for? All glammed up or a more natural look? Do you want to get a spray tan or use self tanner for your wedding? It’s a great idea to start exploring these things and even do a trial or two to see what you really like to make sure it’s perfect for your wedding day.
A picture says 1000 words. Be sure to choose a photographer who fits your personal style and someone whose photography style fits the vibe of your wedding. Again, go back to your list of 5-10 words that describe the way you want your wedding to feel. If some of your words are "relaxed", "casual", and "fun", then maybe a photographer whose style leans toward glamorous and elegant isn't the best fit for you. You will keep your wedding photos forever, so we think the photographer is one of the most important vendors you will book!
Narrow down your guest list. Think about all the people who you want to be in the room celebrating with you on your big day. Start to compile a list and make sure all important family and influential friends are listed first.
Send mail. Although almost everything can be done online these days, people love receiving your save the date and invitation in the mail. It’s so classic and traditional. Once your invitation goes out, people will start to send gifts, so make sure to handwrite everyone a thank you note and drop it in the mail!
Make sure you have help! There are going to be so many moving pieces on the day of your wedding, so it’s definitely worthwhile to hire a day-of-coordinator if that is something your venue does not offer. Even if you are ultra-organized, it’s so nice to have an extra person available that day to help make sure the show runs smoothly!
BONUS TIP: SLEEP ON IT! With any big decision, you should take one day to sleep on it. Sometimes its easy to get wrapped up in the planning and forget to step back and take a look at the big picture.
